changes in the Provincial Nomination Programs and Federal Skilled Workers Program may happen soon

Last January 26, 2012, Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism,announced the results of their evaluation of the Provincial Nominee Program of Canada.

In the press conference he has cited the Provincial Nominee Program as the second biggest source of Immigrants from all over the world next to the Federal Skilled Workers Program.

Moreover, improvements on the Provincial Nominee program will be on its way.

In one of the highlight of the speech, he has noted and I quote,

"So one of the things I want to work on with the provinces is how we can maximize the value of the PN selection process, get businesses more involved in the process, in recruiting people proactively from overseas with businesses so they already have jobs lined up when they get there. I should also say that will be an important part of the reforms that we will be making to the federal skilled worker points system later this year, as intimated by the Prime Minister today in Davos."source

If you can recall in previous post, a proposal in changing the selection criteria or Points System of Canada in its Federal Skilled Workers program was published in the last publications.

In it, a change in the selection of skilled workers (ex. Welder's, Plumbers, Electricians, etc) were noted. A more fairer way to gauge their proficiency in English and putting value in their work experience were mentioned.

Changes in the Permanent Residents Visa programs in Canada can not be avoided, as Canada would constantly adjust it to meet the standards the they need to meet the demands of their economy, that is why I would recommend that individuals interested to immigrate, not to delay their decisions in applying.

The only way for you to take advantage of a certain program is when you are still qualified.

Visiting Canada - Tourist Visa application for Canada

If you want to Visit Canada either as a tourist, student or temporary worker you would apply to get a Temporary Residents Canada Visa.

As a Filipino, you most of the requirements that you will need in the Application will be contained in this link, Visit Canada options.


If you simply just want to Visit Canada you can either apply for:

Single-entry visa allows one entry only to Canada within the validity of the visa.

Multiple-entry visa allows unlimited entries to Canada within the validity of the visa.

Transit visa allows for a short stop-over (maximum 48 hours) entry to Canada en route to another country. It can be granted for a single or multiple entries, depending on the applicant’s travel requirements. Example: If your return travel is also through Canada, you should request a transit visa valid for two entries.

You may also want to consider the following tips on tourist visa application based on our experience:

1. What is the Purpose of your visit? The most crucial consideration in application. Why are you visiting Canada? Depending on your purpose, you may be required to submit a letter of invitation from a relative or friend in Canada, the purpose of said invitation to visit Canada should be well defined and must be believable.

2. Do you have Strong Ties to the Philippines? A big factor in the assessment of your application by a Visa Officer whether to issue you a visa or not. You have to prove that you will not overstay in Canada beyond your Visa validity. That you will return the Philippines after the period given. Considering the present situation in the Philippines and the opportunities in Canada, the Visa Officer will naturally doubt if an applicant really just wants to Visit Canada or seek for opportunities and not go back to their home country. If you're unemployed, within the working age bracket, and your purpose in visiting Canada is for instance to have a vacation, that sends a very bad signal.

3. Supporting documents. The Canada Visa Officer will review and make a decision on your application based on the documents you submit. It is important to submit sufficient verifiable documents.

The documents to be provided by the person inviting you to visit Canada varies depending on the purpose of your visit. For you to establish strong ties to the Philippines, proof of assets, employment, business, etc. is needed.

You may file your application direct to Canadian Embassy. Just follow the instructions in the application kit and submit the appropriate documents.

Changes in Canada's Immigration Program
This coming July 1, 2012, a new Ministerial Instruction will be issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada Minister. The new Ministerial Instruction will contain new regulations, policy and priorities under Canada's immigration program.

For the Federal Skilled Workers (FSW) program, a new list of priority occupations or eligible occupation listing for the program will be published. It can either be the same list of occupations as the current one or an entirely different one. The sentiment is, more openings will be coming soon for independent immigrants. There is also a great chance that the proposed changes to FSW points system will be implemented this coming July. Your occupation, education and work experience may be the next one needed in Canada and you have the chance to apply, but again the same question applies, ARE YOU READY to immigrate to Canada?
